Frequently Asked Questions How much does it cost? The inital assessment session is free of charge. Subsequent sessions, which are usually weekly, will normally be £45 but the cost will be agreed between you and your counsellor, depending on what you can afford, following the initial session. How long are the sessions and how many will I need? The initial session may last up to 90 minutes. Subsequent sessions will last 55 minutes as a rule. The number of sessions you will need or have depends on so many factors, including your objectives for counselling in the first place, that it might be something you need to work out with your counsellor once they know more about you. You may visit your counsellor just once or twice or many, many times over weeks, months or years. We will regularly review what we are doing to ensure that you feel we are on the right track. Is your service confidential? Yes, with a few exceptions. We might feel we need to talk to a GP or another professional if we think you or someone else is at risk. Like all counsellors we might be required by law to give evidence (more details will be in our contract with you should you decide to start counselling with us). And we will talk to our supervisor about our work with you; they are bound by the same confidentiality as we are. What if I don't get on with my allocated counsellor? We understand that this might happen and believe that it is important for an individual to feel comfortable with their counsellor in order for therapy to work. We can refer you to another counsellor either within or outside the service or you can bring the counselling to an end at any point. It would be helpful for us to understand the reasons for this if possible. |
